Fellow Engineering Design Professional,
It is a fact that Embedded GUI design can be daunting, causing staid "look and feel" to exist in products you design. Changes are seen as too hard and too expensive to make quickly. Competition drives your spending to keep up if you 'have to' change.
However, when we take stock of what’s taught by 'rote' in this industry those dreaded conceptions aren’t surprising.
Accepted Practice in GUI design in the Embedded Industry Just Doesn't Give Best Productivity and Bang for the Buck.
From a ‘business model’ for a developer of sophisticated devices does it really make sense to
- Port an archaic internally maintained codebase from project to project just because "It's ours, we know it?"
- Write reams of C code that must be changed (and Retested!) just to move an object on the Screen?
- Tell the boss in front of the CEO and Marketing, "no we cannot do that pretty embedded GUI you really want?
- Say, "Well, actually, I can do that, but only if you give us more time and money?"
Most of the techniques that are frequently taught in this industry about the difficulty and expense of an Embedded GUI result from the idea that GUIs must be constructed by hard core coding or code generation.
Period.
TILCON'S CODELESS EMBEDDED GUI SYSTEM SHOWS OTHERWISE!
